The Women Behind Women Aware – Meet Aline

Creative Arts Therapist

A Creative Arts Therapist, Aline believes that one has to be passionate about women’s rights and equality to work in the domestic violence services field, and she is a vocal advocate. She draws inspiration from her parents, who work hard, play hard and then work even harder. Her favorite place in the world is Manhattan, specifically the Financial District. It feels like a second home because she went to school in the neighborhood. The best meal she ever ate was a bowl of pasta in a Paris restaurant, which capped off a day of sightseeing with best friends. Though she has visited Brazil in the past, she would like to return to see the Christ the Redeemer statue. If she could trade places with someone for a day, Aline would choose Beyoncé because “The woman can get an infinite number of things done in a day, and I am far too curious to find out how.” Her secret talent? She can embroider. As an intern for Women Aware, she created a large art piece, embroidering the definition of domestic violence on the 18” hoop, then adding three smaller hoops with statistics. The small pieces now hang on the PALS (Peace: A Learned Solution) program bulletin board at Women Aware. In PALS, Aline recalled a challenging, but meaningful case through which she developed a special relationship with the family. She said, “I am usually very good at leaving my work at work, but I carry this family with me.”
