The Women Behind Women Aware – Meet Rachel

As a Domestic Violence Liaison, Rachel is inspired by her clients to be the best advocate and person she can be. Their stories make her want to work harder and strive to be even better for her next client. She is passionate about learning, enjoys different perspectives and is drawn to documentaries, training and reading. Rachel believes what her great-grandparents said to be true, “No one can take away what is in your brain, so fill it up.” The most recent book she read was Know My Name by Chanel Miller, the victim in the Brock Turner sexual assault case. Rachel’s favorite place to be is the beach in warm weather; the bluer the ocean the happier she is. Where would she travel to if she had the chance? Wales. Rachel thinks it would be “very cool” to see where her great-grandmother grew up. If she had the chance to trade places, it would be with her dog, who gets to nap all day, eat treats and play. Her favorite comfort food is her sister’s sauerbraten, a German pot roast. In thinking about what is most meaningful about her work at Women Aware, Rachel said, “Often times, I meet with survivors right after an incident of abuse, and am trying to get them connected, not only with Women Aware services, but with other community services. I find that hearing clients are doing well, active in services and moving forward in their lives is the most meaningful thing to me. It makes me feel like I made a difference and really helped them.”
