The Women Behind Women Aware – Meet Sahra

Sahra

Sahra is Women Aware’s Child Advocate. She draws inspiration from Ralph Waldo Emerson: “To leave the world a bit better whether by healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know that one life has breathed easier because you have lived here. This is to have succeeded.”

Sahra is most passionate about children’s rights, believing that all children deserve an equal opportunity from the moment they are born. The last book she read was Holocaust survivor Max Eisen’s By Chance Alone. Sahra appreciates the reminder that the world should never forget events that occur through history as forgetting about them leads to these events being repeated. A student of history herself, Sahra would love to travel through Europe to see different landmarks, especially the Palace of Versailles in France. When it comes to the best meal she has ever eaten, Sahra has high praise for L&B Spumoni Gardens in Brooklyn, NY. “If you ever want a real New York slice of pizza, this is the place to go.” When asked about a case that has special meaning, Sahra spoke of a family whom she met in Women Aware’s emergency shelter. “To get to have witnessed the progress this young mom has made along with her two children, I am thankful to be one of the many people at Women Aware who made this growth possible for her.”
