A caseworker at Women Aware, Maggie is inspired by people who maintain high spirits and a positive outlook on life despite going through difficult, life-altering times. Her commitment to do her best for her clients is guided by her mother’s philosophy of “el vago trabaja doble” or “a slacker has to do the work twice.” Her favorite place to visit is the beach, a weekly destination during the summer. On a daily basis, home is Maggie’s favorite place, a safe haven where her dog is always waiting for her. She dreams of traveling to Santorini, Greece. A self-proclaimed foodie, Maggie maintains that her best meal was enjoyed at a restaurant in Philadelphia. It started with lobster mac n’ cheese followed by steak paired with mashed potatoes and asparagus. It isn’t actually a secret talent, more like a favorite pastime, so you will frequently find Maggie on the dance floor enjoying salsa, bachata and merengue. In reflecting on her work, Maggie shared that every case leaves a small imprint on your heart. She has served clients at Women Aware’s shelter and in the PALS program for children, but one unforgettable hotline call left her in tears. It was a powerful reminder of how necessary are Women Aware’s services.
