Staff Spotlight – Meet Anna
Anna is Women Aware’s Domestic Violence Response Team Administrator. She is most inspired by her mother. Anna credits her mom, who was widowed at a younger age, for raising her alone in a safe and happy home. Anna’s favorite place is Cancun, Mexico for its beautiful beaches, crystal blue ocean and white sand. She is passionate about her work and volunteerism in support of victims of domestic and sexual violence, especially those who are alone. If she could, Anna would trade places for a day with her son to have his amazing Taekwondo skills and hold a second degree Black Belt. No stranger to martial arts herself, Anna holds a Green Belt in karate. The best meal she ever ate was linguini with clams followed by a fried fish platter in Naples, Italy. In future travels, Anna would most like to visit the religious sites in the Holy Land, specifically Bethlehem, birthplace of Jesus Christ. An avid reader, Anna most recently read several books by William P. Young, The Shack, Crossroads and EVE. In reflecting on a case that has special meaning for her, Anna shared about a young woman who endured abuse from her parents and siblings for being “different” and not conforming to their cultural norms and expectations. Anna believes parents and home should provide a safe haven. This young woman was rejected and mistreated, but had the strength to move forward with her life, alone, to safety, in spite of the many obstacles facing her. “I feel privileged to have known her.”
